Lydia’s invocation centered on Marie Curie, Nobel Prize winner, Physicist and first woman professor at the University of Paris. She did not let prejudice or societal norms dictate her decisions. She said: ” You must never be fearful about what you are doing if it is the right thing”.

In Memoriam: Our dear past member, Carol Taylor, passed away last week. Carol was an amazing woman with many interests. Paralyzed years ago, from a skiiing accident, she didn’t let her injury limit her or define her. She lived to read, meet with friends, and had a great head for numbers. She was a wonderful addition to our club and our community. She will be missed.

Today’s program included some much needed SITSterhood time!

We took time to share stories with each other about the “moment or decision that changed the course of our lives”. All the shares were thoughtful and impactful. It is so nice to get a deeper appreciation of these wonderful women we work side by side with in our club. Joanne Shope shared an experience she had while on a mission in Africa. The group was working with the locals to build shelters. One afternoon, the rain hit…HARD! The group ran to the 10×12 shelter that was covered and waited together in silence, shoulder to shoulder. At one point someone suggested singing, so the missionaries sang a song, then the locals sang a song. The groups went back and forth, with the final song (in English) “This little light of mine.” Then the locals broke into the exact same song, (including the same hand gestures) but in Swahili. The collective group had an emotional response to this as everyone realized that, in spite of different cultures, languages and living 12,000 miles apart, they shared this song, Christianity, and humanity. Everyone felt closer to each other. This moment impacted Joanne so much that she spent much of her adult life working to better the lives of those in need. Her work at Christmas Cheer and Soroptimist Intl. of Tahoe Sierra, made Tahoe a better place to live for so many. Her commitment to humanity has made her a Tahoe Treasure.

We had a very busy week with Mt. Tallac Prom, STHS Senior Projects, our Vacation Raffle Winners, and the closing of our online auction!

We have so much to be proud of and thankful for. Thank you :

It all adds up to enhancing the lives of women and youth in our community and around the world!

PETAL KINDNESS is a non-profit organization dedicated to brightening the South Lake Tahoe community through floral donations, promotion of local community events, and diverting green waste from landfills. They are in need of vases, so clean out the vase closet ladies, and email them to coordinate a drop off at [email protected]

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Center could use donations of towels if you have some to take to goodwill, take them here instead.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless seeks community support in keeping people cared for.

Our South Shore community has been able to sleep better knowing that our homeless population has an indoor option. This winter season marked the seventh anniversary of the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) providing warm beds to the most vulnerable in our community.

The office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 12-4 at the Red Lodge, 1137 Emerald Bay Rd.
