What’s happening under the Dome? Karin Holmes presented a comprehensive view of “Closing the Opportunity Gap” at Sierra House School. Giving students a wide range of opportunities helps them to achieve their maximum potential in all areas. Instrumental in this process are the gardening domes on the campus, but that is only a small part of the opportunities offered. Students are also involved in a native plant garden overseen by a Washoe Elder, an Agroforestry project involving layered fruit trees, a bee hive and Farmer’s Market tasting, Robotics and Coding, Art projects exploring spatial relations, an Outdoor science learning program, Mountain Sports Academy, and a Wellbeing Program in nature. Grants and volunteers, such as Vail, Barton, PTA, parents and community members help support these programs.
