President Nancy Muller
I grew up with parents who volunteered quite a bit. They modeled the importance of giving to your community. After I lost my home in the 2007 Angora Fire, the generosity of the Tahoe community only solidified in me the reason to volunteer and give back. I have been a member of Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra for 4 short years, but have met some of the most extraordinary, creative and competent women I have ever known, not to mention the friendships which are gained. We affectionately refer to ourselves as SITSters, because we truly are a family. Members work hard to fulfill our mission statement…to strengthen and enhance the lives of women and youth locally and around the world.
I served as President two years ago. When asked if I would step up again, it didn’t take me too long to say “yes.” As a retired teacher, I think of this 2nd term much like teaching: The first year is a steep learning curve, and the 2nd year you hope to go into the classroom with more confidence and understanding. That is truly how I look at this commitment. I look forward to making a meaningful contribution to what is already an incredible organization.
