Member Hannah Greenstreet who works at the Live Violence Free center shared with us one of the projects we help to support. “On November 13, Live Violence Free held their bi-annual Girls’ Empowerment Retreat at South Tahoe Middle School. Thanks to the generous contributions from community partners, 30 sixth and seventh grade girls gathered to learn useful tools on how to stay safe, develop coping skills and empathy, and create a cohesive group of sisterhood and acceptance. Vital partners who donated their time and shared their knowledge include: Escobar Training Grounds, Amanda Weavil from Barton Health, and the team from the empowerment organization, Soul 2 Soul. The education and skills taught to the girls made a lasting impact on their self-esteem and understanding of one other. The girls enjoyed dinner thanks to donations from MacDuff’s Public House. Owner of MacDuff’s, Iain Sievwright, firmly believes in the project. “We hope that by supporting the retreat we can help the next generation of female entrepreneurs know that they are special and can rise up.”
Sponsorship from Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra and MacDuff’s Public House has allowed Live Violence Free to develop diverse workshops and provide more resources to the girls. Cassie Prouty, founder of Soul 2 Soul, expressed her gratitude to share in this event. “Our mission at Soul 2 Soul is to change the world by empowering the youth to know their worth and that’s exactly what we are able to do at this workshop.” The girls have committed to meeting as a group on a regular basis to continue building positive relationships. The spring retreat will host eighth grade girls as they prepare for the transition to high school. Live Violence Free could not offer these opportunities without the commitment of these important community allies in our effort to prevent violence and cultivate healthy relationships. We are truly grateful!”
Thank you Hannah and other members who help to support our youth at the middle school. Your time and hearts are so appreciated!
