Dr. Graham M. Kent is Director of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory/ and Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. Prof. Kent shared with us firefighting techniques in the 21st Century and how those techniques are being put to work here in the Lake Tahoe Basin. ” AlertTAHOE is a challenge to the greater Tahoe community – its residents, visitors, leaders, and the business community – to invest in the expansion of a one-of-a-kind fire camera system that is built upon and Emergency Information Platform already in use for earthquake monitoring and response. With four cameras already in place, scoring early successes during the summer of 2014, UNR’s Seismological Lab is launching the AlertTahoe Campaign to raise $2 million to place additional cameras, its associated telemetry infrastructure and a user friendly web portal at 15 more locations. The equipment will also be available for use by emergency response personnel and the interested public.”
This project belongs to all of us who are concerned about fires and other natural disasters in our area. We want to keep Tahoe alive and beautiful. Everyone should donate what they can so this can get completed! Learn more and donate at www.alerttahoe.seiso.unr.edu
