    • Leon Malmed, author of “We Survived..at Last I Speak”.

      Feb. 22, 2018
Leon Malmed is the author of We Survived...at Last I Speak.   A group of advanced animation students at College of the Canyons spent the entire Spring 2017 semester bringing to life memories of Holocaust survivor Leon Malmed, resulting in the 15 minute animated documentary "The Promise."  During Nazi occupation of Northern France, between 1940 and 1945, Leon and his sister lived in hiding saved by a French family.  We are pleased and honored that Leon, now a Tahoe resident,  will be showing "The Promise" to our club, followed by a 20-25 minute presentation by Leon.

    • Annual Awards Breakfast

      March 8, 2018
This is a very important day in the life of our club.  This morning we will give three awards recognizing some very special ladies in our community.   The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards assist women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects.  This is a cash award that is made possible through our fundraising activities (read Elegant Evening). The Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award is a recognition program for young women in grades 8 – 11 engaged in volunteer action within our community or schools. The award is given to young women whose activities make the community and world a better place.  This is a monetary award to eligible young women who have a passion for volunteerism which support women and/or children in some capacity. There are no restrictions on the type of activity.  The Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women honors the first federation President Ruby Lee Minar. Ruby is also a gemstone associated with wisdom, importance, vitality, strength, power and love: All words embodying the award recipients.  This award is presented to a woman (or women) who have made a difference in the lives of women and families in our community.   They have made South Lake Tahoe a better place to live through their volunteer efforts.
